Egyptian actress Rahma Mohsen opened up in a recent interview about her life before stardom. She sold coffee from a street cart in Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October City. Proud of those days, she calls them proof of her perseverance.
Fans reacted with surprise to her open, confident tone. No hint of shame in her story.
“I stood there with the coffee cart in Zayed and October,” she recalled. “Artists and presenters often bought from me. Now folks share old photos and say, God bless those times.”
She continued: I pushed hard, gave it everything. God gave back. If someone scoffs at my past work, they scoff at divine gifts.
Mohsen gave thanks to actor Ahmed El Awady for his early backing. “The great star Ahmed El Awady deserves credit,” she said. “Generous man, he trusted me. Thank God, I held up my end. That song echoes across Egypt still.”
Her path started at Al-Balloon Theater. She sang in a religious group, studied music at an institute. A pause followed, then a comeback.
She sang “Goul Al-Osoul” in the series Fahd Al-Batal, led by Ahmed El Awady with Mirna Nour El-Din, Caroline Azmy, Essam El Saqqa, Lucy, Safwa, and Rabab Momtaz. Mahmoud Hamdan wrote the script; Mohamed Abd El-Salam directed.
The show drew big crowds in Ramadan, dominated social media trends.
