In a turn that closed a chapter of scandal, Egyptian influencer Abeer Al-Shami walked free this May. The court cleared her of charges that gripped social media for months.
She faced accusations from her husband, a businessman often abroad. He claimed surveillance footage showed infidelity in their 6th of October City villa. Al-Shami, known for fashion and beauty tips on Instagram (@abeershamy), countered with claims of blackmail. Her father-in-law and a family friend, she said, planted hidden cameras after she rejected their advances.
The saga started in 2024. Police arrested her in August, after a one-year sentence from the First October Misdemeanor Court. Appeals followed. September brought bail at 30,000 Egyptian pounds, then adjournments to October and beyond.
Come May 15, 2025, the South Giza Appeals Court ruled innocence. Insufficient evidence, they found, overturning the conviction. Al-Shami, full name Abeer Abdul Hamid Ahmed Al-Shami, emerged vindicated. Her story highlights privacy woes for public figures.
